I also notice that French children eat sweets, cakes and biscuits nearly every day, but this is only for gouter at 4 o'clock. As a result, I think they don't go crazy for that kind of food as it's not forbidden, they are allowed to eat it every day but at a very specific time. (By the way this is my favourite teatime snack - a piece of dark chocolate in a fresh baguette. Yum!)
